Ministry Staff

Marvin Ownley came on staff at Stevens Chapel in March 2015 as the Student Pastor, before becoming Pastor in June 2016. Prior to coming to Stevens Chapel, Marvin preached in churches throughout eastern North Carolina through pulpit-supply ministry. He also previously served as a Student Intern at Hertford Baptist Church. 

Marvin was called into ministry while in the process of applying to medical school. The Hertford native is a two-time graduate of Campbell University, where he obtained a Master of Divinity, with distinction, and a B.S. in Biochemistry & Chemistry. While completing his Master's, Marvin met Lexi Robertson, in March 2017 while attending a revival meeting at Central Baptist Church, in Dunn. A relationship between them quickly bloomed and their mentor and dear friend, Pastor Tom Wagoner, married them on June 9, 2018. Marvin & Lexi have two daughters: Merritt Grace & Kamdyn Faith. The Ownley’s have made their home in Brogden.

In addition to ministry, Marvin also enjoys: coffee, spending time with his family, anything outside, farming, and exploring small coffee shops with his wife.​

Sherry Jones came on staff at Stevens Chapel in May 2022, as the Coordinator of Children's Ministries and Financial Secretary. Sherry’s heart for children and families is evident. She previously served at Rosewood Elementary School as a full-time reading tutor. Following her time in the school system, the Lord placed a new calling on Sherry’s life. After much prayer, Sherry assumed the position of Youth and Children’s Director at Rosewood First Baptist Church.  The Lord blessed her with four years of fruitful ministry there. 

Sherry finds the simplest things bring her the most joy. In her free time, she enjoys walks, taking care of her pets, and most of all, spending time with her family. She has had the faithful support of her husband, Billy, to whom she has been married since June 26, 1999  Together, they have three children, Kasey, Alex, and Nick.
